Year 2006

CAP contest is the most important national competition for architecture undergraduate students, organized by Compañía de Acero del Pacífico (Pacific Steel Company). For the 2006 version, the challenge was to create a National Flora Pavilion, evidently built in steel. Our project transformed a large crude carrier (Supertanker) into an itinerant botanical garden.

Thus, Chilean flora is exported to different harbours around the world in a memorable and monumental way, exalted by the most expressive steel architecture: a modern vessel. The project achieves the conversion of an “oil icon” into a “green” educational carrier.
